So sorry Vanessa about what happened to Midge. It's so, so sad. I sometimes think that none of us really know what is contained in the food that we eat. God bless and take care of little angel Midge....xxxx

Thank you for your lovely messages from Bruno and me. It's Sunday 31st October 2010 BRUNO'S 3RD BIRTHDAY!!!! I thank God that he has made it to his special day. He is having absent healing too and will see if he is well enough to go for his second session of Reiki. I don't want him stressed, so maybe we wont go....He is on special cat food for kidney canditions now and has it blended into a kind of soup....

I am praying for Bruno and you every day .... it is fantastic news that he can come home! Sometimes just being back with you can improve the chances of a recovery. Please, please little Bruno be strong and fight off this thing - kitty kisses from all of the Africats and Vanessa.

Diet for kitties seems to be such a controversial thing amongst the veterinary experts! Personally, my indoor Magic and Muffin only eat dry food, but the others all eat a mix - wet food for breakfast, then dry is always there to nibble on. One thing I do totally believe in is that dry dog food can kill cats - it killed my Midge! We were away, a friend was coming in every day to feed, and left some dog food down by mistake. 24 hours my Midge was dead from kidney stones caused by the dog food!!!

How is Bruno?
MackemCat 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
Thank you so much for the info re: raw foods. My babies will be changing their diet to protect them against this sort of thing happening in the future.....xx
MackemCat 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
At 3.00pm, today, Friday, 29th October, Bruno can come home!!!!! Nothing more can be done by vets except medication, diet plan etc. No prognosis of how long he will live as his condition is about as bad as it gets. Now I'm looking into absent and hands-on healing which I feel can work and also by the power of positive thought and Reiki....Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Love you all.....Greta and Bruno xxxxxxx

Greta, check out rawfed.com, they advocate for giving raw food instead of kibble to our pets.

Such an issue with multiple cats Greta - their likes and dislikes, I know. Little Bruno, please, please, please surprise everyone and beat this thing! Prayers, hugs, kisses are all on your side sweetums. Ditto to you Greta ... I feel your pain.
MackemCat 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
I totally agree, after what has happened, that the dried is not ideal but the vets push it and tell you it's the best. It's so expensive too and I think the vet makes must make commission selling it. I think I must change the diets of all the cats now and try to get them fresh food, chicken, beef etc and mix this with seasonal vegetables. They are so picky with food and know what they like so I will try to wean them off gradually supplementing various meals with fresh or raw food......

Vet cannot understand why Bruno looks so well when all the tests show how seriously ill with renal failure he is. It's a nightmare. I have seen him twice today and tonight I had to catch him when he leaped off the table in the treatment room. What a shock that was as I was stroking him at the time and just caught him. I'm baffled & so is vet. Any ideas what I can do next. I must save him.............x

I think too that dry food is not perfect for our kitties, especialy when then don't like to drink! Hourdou used to ask for both type of food, first the wet, and after some dry food for her dessert! She is a big "drinker" so I don't think there is a problem. But Shami never wanted to drink, I think it was very bAd for her, even if she used to eat mostly wet food... MY POINT OF VIEW : DON'T GIVE TO MUCH DRY FOOD TO YOUR KITTIES!
MackemCat 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
Hello everyone. Bruno looks great today, bright eyed & happy. However his blood toxic levels are through the roof and the vet says there is nothing more he can do for him but does not want to put him to sleep as he would normally with such a sick animal so he is sending him home. I am now looking at other ways of saving him....if it's possible...I love him so much.......I am devastated.........
Stacey 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
I have heard mixed things from different veterinarians. Some sat wet food is best others say dry food. I give Marilyn both types and Whiskers gets both too. They are 8 and 9 and have been doing pretty good off both. I have heard what Lazy Susan said though from vets, about how dry food is stripped of moisture so it's not the best. It's worth have a look into it and researching. How is sweet Bruno today?
micino 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
Always keeping Bruno in my mind and prayers. Kitty kisses to this adorable little fellow

I am so very grateful to you akk for your wonderful support for me and my precious little boy. I'ts very interesting that Bruno prefers dried cat food. Lewis also eats this and I feel it is going to be better now to wean them both off it and use wet or freshly prepared food. I wonder now if the dried food has contributed to his currwnt state of health. Has anyone else found that this is the case? xx
Lazy Susan 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
o sorry to hear about your kitty! I recently found out that canned catfood prevents many kidney diseases. Dry catfood is very bad for cats, they need the moisture! Give your kitty canned cat food, it might help to save him/ Good luck, I will pray for him

Oh! Greta! I am so sorry to hear about Bruno's desease! I can't believe it! I hope the vet will do his best to improve his health and find the appropriate medication. Kidneys are often a problem with kities, but Bruno is so young! I hope his youth will help him for recovering. Many hugs to you and little Bruno.
MackemCat 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
Thanks to everyone, my dear lovely friends. Tonight I have been researching feline renal failure to see what I can do for him. There is so much more help for cats suffering this condition available in America than in UK where we live. There is not even a place for dialyisis here that I can see even though they are trying to raise funds to get one. It's such a shame. If only I can do something......
POUPIE 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
Dear Greta, I've just come from work. Mum and I thought about little Bruno during the whole day. We hope that the vets will find what happens very soon and that they will give a treatment. We pray for him. Hugs and kisses for our litlle dark angel. Please, take care and keep the faith.

Dear Greta ... hang in there dear friend. Sure sounds like little Bruno is in good hands and that the vet is doing everything they can ... continued prayers, thoughts and hugs and of course love.
MackemCat 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
Vets said they have to find out what is going on so they know what treatment he will need and will start it straight away. I can't understand how this illness can happen and what has caused it......He is so young and has been in quite good health apart from the virus he had at the start of the year.
MackemCat 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
Thank you so much everyone. Bruno is a bit brighter and happier today (26/10/10) but his toxin levels are still high and haven't moved today. He has been up & eating but the vet says his kidneys don't look so good on the xray. As I am writing this, vets are doing a small biopsy to kidney with a hollow needle to see if there are cancerous growths. It's a nightmare.....Please pray for him.......xx

That's so lovely, Mary. I am feeling so down and brokenhearted. I have just been to the vets (3 pm Monday) to visit Bruno and he is so weak. He is on a drip and is having extra potassium as his salts are down. He recognised me straight away and rubbed my hand with his mouth and purred. He then got very sleepy and felt cold so I didn't stay too long as I didn't want to over-tire him. If he survives, the next two days are critical but hope is fading. I just can't believe all this...........

MackemCat 14.03.2011 00:33 | Flag
Terrible news. Bruno's kidneys are failing and vets don't give him much hope as he is weaker and full of toxins. I am devastated for my beautiful and precious little man. They are flushing his kidneys though in the hope that there may be some improvement but don't think it will happen. only 5% chance. They will only do this for two days.......so many tears for my lovely little boy....

It's 11.15 at night, Sunday and Caroline, the vet has just rung. Bruno is not passing urine and is in great discomfort. She is going to anaesthetise him again and put a catheter in. She wanted permission to do this. I'm now frantic with worry......

Thank you all for your lovely messages of support. Bruno is still in. His condition has stablised & his breathing is OK. He is on a drip and having fluid and painkillers. The main concern is his heart murmur which is quite pronounced. He has been drinking but hasn't eaten very much. The vets will update me tomorrow. I miss him so much but I know he is better off being where he is at the moment....xxxxxxxx

I cannot express my thanks enough for all your lovely messages. No news yet and it's Sunday morning now, 10.00am. I had a sleepless night, just thinking of him. I don't understand anything about this. It doesn't make sense. Coming so soon after Charlene's illness and partial blindness feels so cruel. I'm praying for him and good news........x

Thank you both so much. Vet has just been on the phone (10.35 tonight,23/10/10 ) and has said that ultrasound has shown no fluid in lungs but heart still sounding bad.Bruno is still under anaesthetic and they are doing more tests on his heart murmur. I am baffled.... and so sad for Bruno. He had such a bad start to life, being so cruelly treated by his previous owners.....He is so happy now and it all seems so unfair........

He was quiet today but that is just how he is but tonight was howling and panting. It came on all of a sudden. They are operating to drain his lungs.....he may not survive.....I am in total shock and cannot think straight....pray for my angel, please......

About this cat
BRUNO - 31/10/207 - 13/11/ 2010. Beautiful cat originally from Seaton Delaval, Northumberland. He was such a character, funny feisty and with an uncanny knack of doing DIY jobs around the house in his own inimitable style. He was so loved, it's hard to quantify just how much. He contracted CRF and was ill for knly three weeks before he lost his fight. He is buried with his special friend, Thomas in the local pet cemetery. Rest in peace, little man, until we meet again....I love you Bruno.....xxxxxxx
