Don't worry too much, let her out, cats enjoy being outside very much. As Turro says, she does know where her home is! And a little advice, never let her out with a full belly, if they are hungry they return very soon!!

I would just keep a close eye on her...I face that fear every time I open a door. Mar does run out but she doesn't dart away, just runs out, turns around and meows. I am sure dear Kiwi will be okay :) Maybe she would like a car ride? Those are safe. :)

What I worry about is if she gets out the door by herself without the harness...but ppl seem to think they usually stay around the house. We have a lot of woods nearby, and then at the other end of the woods are city streets.. so I'd be sad if she got lost.

As long as she is out on a harness and leash with you, she'll be safe! That's the way that I have to take Mar outside...and she loves it!

I'm not an ethologist, but from my experience with my cats, I'ld say that, if she grew up inside with you, she will certainly enjoy the yard, but will always know where actually is her home

Probably should have never done this, however, it was such a nice day here finally and I knew I could handle & trust Kiwi. She loved it. I hope I don't live to regret letting her out. But.... ya got live sometimes!

Cat's Pictures
About this cat
Kiwi is a tiny short haired black cat with white toes and neck. She was born June 2008 and my daughter rescued her and hid her in her room for about a week. Then one day told me a sad kitten story that made me cry. While I was still controlled by emotion a little black 6 week old kitty crawled out of her big purse. Boy was I conned.I never had a cat. Did not think I was a cat person, but its been 4 months and she makes me smile every day.
