I believe that Ambercat will be fine and home soon again . 20 years of experience with cats and cat diseases have taught me that they are tough and strong creatures and that they heal very fast. Please give Ambercat a big kiss from me when you visit him today.
To clarify, his bladder is fine. No issues except for the blockage. But, he has a pinhole leak in this urethra in a point that's inaccessible, which was apparently caused by the blockage, and allowed some urine to get into his abdominal cavity, which is why they opened him up. The strategy now is to leave a catheter in just past the point where the pinhole is, so that hopefully the hole will heal closed. He was fine last night -- this pic was taken at about 8PM. He was asleep by the stove, and woke up at 11 PM and just started going to the litter box continuously. There was absolutely nothing at all about his behavior to suggest anything was out of the ordinary.
I can't believe how quiet it is without him literally bouncing off the walls. I'll post an update tomorrow when I go there to visit him. I called in sick tonite, no way I could go in, and leave the others alone.
Oh no Mark -- I had a kitty who had this issue 30 years ago - thank goodness you got him to the vet in time - this is always a concern with male kitties and I always mention to owners to be vigilant in feeling there bladder/lower bell to make sure it's not enlarged which is an indication of blockage. Poor baby Ambercat -- my sincere prayers for his recovery. Please Ambercat - get better honey.
Well, this is bad. After they catheterized him and drained his bladder, they did an xray and ultrasound, which showed he had fluid in his abdomen. They feared his bladder might've been perforated, so they had to open him up. They found the source of the leak is a pinhole on his urethra, which is not accessible. So, he has to stay catheterized and hospitalized until the pinhole hopefully mends. They did drain his bladder successfully. They're pretty sure that the cause was probably the Blue Buffalo Wilderness Grain Free food I switched to a month ago, so please avoid this stuff.
Oh, poor baby ! Hope he will be okay soon again ! Hugs and kisses to Ambercat and to you of course, too Mark. I sure know how it's like when our Darlings are sick.
Ambercat is being hospitalized for several days at the vet. He was fine last night, then suddenly started making repeated trips to the litter box without success. This morning he was very distressed. He has a complete urinary blockage and I took him in this morning.
